Affliction “Day Of Reckoning” |
Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Ca. was an awesome promotion by TRUMP, Golden Boy Promotions, M-1 Global and broadcasted as a Showtime Sports Pay Per View Event. The Featured Main Event was everything it was billed. The electricity in the air for the Fedor Emelianenko (29-1 7 KO’s) vs. Andrei Arlovski (14-6 10 KO’s) fight was amazing, with 13,000 highly excited fans in attendance. Arlovski had a reach and height advantage over Fedor that proved not enough. Arlovski was doing well staying out of the way of Fedor’s vicious right hand with his jab and kicks. But things happen fast in the ring. You can only make one mistake with Fedor and Arlovski made his when he landed a front kick sending Fedor into the ropes. Arlovski came flying in with a knee while Fedor was coming back off the ropes with a vicious right to the grill of Arlovski. Arlovski woke up face down on the mat and his chance to beat the man thought unbeatable was lost in the blink of an eye. Josh Barnett (26-5 5 KO’s) displayed great ground control in smashing Gilbert Yves (35-13-1 30 KO‘s) Amsterdam, Holland into submission. The end came with 1:59 left in the 3rd round when Yves tapped out due to strikes. The victory set Barnett as next in line for Fedor. Vitor Belfort (19-8 13 KO’s) devastated Matt Lindland (21-6 6 KO’s) with a right hand that sent Lindland flying across the ring, landing on his back. Vitor quickly pounced on Lindland landing four more vicious right hands to the side of the head before the Referee could step in to stop it. The fight lasted only :37 seconds, watch out world, “Vitor is Back”. Babalu Sobral (32-7 3 KO’s) stopped Thierry Sokoudjou (5-4 4 KO’s) by submission at 2:36 of the 2nd round. Paul Buentello (27-10 17 KO’s) ruffed up Cirill Sidellnikov (5-3 5 KO’s) until the Doctor stopped the fight with :44 seconds left in the 3rd round. Dan Lauzon (12-2 6 KO’s) was business as usual, stopping Bobby Green (7-2 4 KO’s). Lauzon took Green to the mat and beat on him until he was able to slip in his Rear Naked Choke to finish him with only :03 seconds left in the 1st round. |
